Welcome to the Friends of Edithvale Seaford Wetlands
_
Important Notice regarding the Bird Hide:
The bird hide at Edithvale wetlands is currently closed as some critical repair works need to be undertaken. Melbourne water had earlier committed to completing the works unfortunately the repair of the hide is now a matter of ongoing negiation between the Friends and Melbourne Water with an offer of support from Birdlife Australia.
The Friends group apologises to the public and its keen volunteers for this unavoidable inconvenience. The need for such works was a surprise to the Friends who had previously arranged for a structural inspection of the Hide in early 2009 which indicated no imminent problems.
A group of Friends are working on replacing the Bird Hide as soon as possible. In the meanwhile, the Discovery Centre on Edithvale Road will be manned by Friends Volunteers one Sunday every fortnight (starting July 15) from 1.00 - 5.00 pm. Visitors are welcome during these times.
Our aim is to conserve the wetland reserves and buffers of the Edithvale - Seaford Wetland Environmental Area.
Our objectives are to :
Promote and encourage the protection, rehabilitation and enhancement of the wetland area for the benefit of indigenous flora and fauna.
Encourage scientific study of the habitat, fauna and flora of the wetlands area.
Promote awareness and appreciation of the wetlands area as a significant habitat for migratory birds, for breeding waterfowl and for wading species.
Exchange information on bird species, other fauna, flora and habitat with other interested organisations and authorities both locally and overseas.
Provide appropriate facilities for educational recreation by people whether young or old, fit or disabled.
